Group Exhibition: Echos of Self
Do We Really Need Naomi? Is an installation mocking a performance during a class critique where I notified my cohort that I would be late to my own crit when, unbeknownst to them, I was secretly undressed, hiding inside a plinth with my usual attire scattered amongst other plinths within the room.
The Echos of Self installation held the same outfit that was displayed in the original performance. The short plinth held a speaker inside that would knock a few times between 5-10 minutes, stopping many walking by to listen.
When creating this installation, I wanted to touch on themes of humour, self and disruption of routine. Despite intending to prank my cohort and instructor in the original performance, this project had grown to become an experiment of whether we need the artist present for performance.
